Bethany G. Shechtel is licensed in Maryland and Florida. Bethany is a board member for the Montgomery County Women’s Bar Association, Simon E. Sobeloff Jewish Law Society and received the President’s Appreciation Award. 

Bethany has completed training as Child Counsel by the Maryland Judiciary Department of Family Administration, is a Md Rule 10-106 Court-Appointed Guardianship Attorney and is a certified Mediator and Collaborative Attorney.

Ellen L. Lee is a graduate of the Washington College of Law, American University and has been practicing family law in Maryland for more than thirty years. She handles all aspects of family law including custody, support, divorce, paternity, domestic violence, and same sex divorces. She is a fierce and tireless advocate for her clients and is a respected lawyer who counsels clients on a wide area of family law issues. 

Most recently, Ellen was selected as a Top Ten Family Law Attorney in Maryland by Attorney in Practice Magazine, is a Martindale Distinguished Attorney, has the Client Champion Platinum Award, and is recognized by Who’s Who Top Attorneys of North America.

Sharon Johnson, Esq.

Sharon Johnson is a licensed attorney and mediator admitted to practice in Maryland and Virginia. Her primary area of practice encompasses all aspects of family law matters (divorce, custody, property, child and spousal support) and guardianships. Within the arena of family law her particular strength is handling high conflict custody cases. Sharon also serves in the capacity of Court-Appointed Best Interest Attorney/Guardian Ad Litem in difficult child custody cases. 

In addition to her litigation and mediation practice, Sharon has served as Co-Chair of the Montgomery County Bar Family Law Section earning the “Outstanding Chair of the Year Award” and President of the Montgomery County Women’s Bar Association. Sharon serves as Secretary of the Maryland Women’s Bar Association and served as Co-Chair of the Judicial Selections Committee for many years. She also lectures and presents programs on divorce and custody for the Montgomery County Commission for Women. 

Above all, Sharon’s primary interest is in providing her clients with the highest level of legal expertise and individualized attention but with the compassion and understanding each of them deserves.

Sharon T. Diamant has been working as an attorney for over twenty years. In October 2000, she became a prosecutor in the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. She left the state’s attorney’s office in 2002 and practiced Criminal Law in Hillsborough County, Florida for two years before returning to the state’s attorney’s office in 2004. Ms. Diamant remained at the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office until 2010, when she opened her own office and went into private practice. While a prosecutor, she handled a wide variety of matters in the District Court Unit, including bad checks, burglary, theft, drunk driving and other traffic offenses, assault, and violations of protective orders (Gazette).

In the Juvenile Division, she specialized in handling sexual abuse cases involving juvenile offenders. She handled one famous juvenile matter involving a youth who had molested several children in his neighborhood which ultimately led to the first-ever sexual offender legislation which would require juveniles engaged in sexual offenses to register as sex offenders (Washington Post). In 2007, Ms. Diamant joined the white-collar crime team in her office, where she handled the prosecution of a myriad of crimes, including large-scale thefts, embezzlements from employers and the federal government, misappropriations, as well as the investigation of police officer-involved shootings and crimes involving public officials.

For the past ten years, Sharon has specialized her practice on criminal law and domestic law. She regularly appears before Magistrates and Judges on all issues surrounding criminal law and domestic law, to include: contested and uncontested divorce, child custody, child support, peace and protective orders, and post-judgment issues. Sharon also handles cases that cross over between criminal and domestic law.

Sharon was recently featured on WJLA 7 News in a case involving a grandparent’s right to custody of a grandchild where the mother is deceased and the father is a convicted criminal.

More recently, Sharon handled a case of a woman accused of attempted murder but who never intended to hurt anyone. That client is now receiving mental health treatment, as opposed to being locked up in a jail.

Sharon is a client’s biggest advocate and at the same time acts as a mentor and friend. She personally answers her phone calls, answers all emails and texts, and is always available to her clients. She is an expert litigator with 20 years of trial experience, but she also mediates for clients and promotes non-litigation strategies, where appropriate.

Sharon is a 1999 graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law and is licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland, the State of Florida, and the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, Maryland. Sharon was also recently admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court. She has been selected to the Super Lawyers list for the State of Maryland in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017, 2018 and 2019.

She is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association, the Sobeloff Society, the Collaborative Divorce Law Society, the National College for DUI Defense and the Montgomery County Criminal Law Society, and the Inns of Court. Sharon also sits on Montgomery County’s Judicial Nominating Commission. She has won Avvo’s Client Choice Award and has a “superb” rating on Avvo.com.

Stephen A. Shechtel is admitted to practice before all Maryland and District of Columbia Courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court. He has completed training as a Child Counsel by the Maryland Judiciary Department of Family Administration. He handles corporate, civil, probate, estates and trusts, and family matters. He has been identified by Thomson Reuters as a “Star Super Lawyer,” and holds a 10.0 AVVO rating, AVVO Client Choice Award, Who’s Who Top Lawyers, Best Lawyers in MD and DC, Top Attorneys in Washington DC, and Expertise Best Family Lawyers. Mr. Shechtel is also a Maryland Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and has also held licenses as a NASD Series 7 & 63 Registered Representative, Health and Life Insurance Broker, Mortgage Broker, Realtor, and several other licenses.

Tamya Fenwick

Tamya is a native Washingtonian who loves her job with the law firm. She has worked with us for going on 2 years. Our clients find Tamya friendly and enormously helpful when they call our office. Tamya lives in a hip neighborhood in DC with her husband and 3 school age children, who keep her very busy outside of the office with travel and camping among other fun things. She also shares her home with her two turtles Skittles and Greene. Tamya‘s excellent taste in fashion and style compliments the office. Tamya also aspires to become a Paralegal to continue to inspire her children to achieve their goals.

Donna Metz

Donna has been a Legal Assistant for over 26 years and loves what she does. She enjoys working with the firms clients and helping them through their case. She is the cheerful smile you will have greet you at the door when you come visit the office. Donna lives on a farm in Cearfoss, Maryland, with her husband Tom, three Great Danes, horses, chickens, and her pet cow named Bongo. She has four children and 10 grandchildren that keep her hopping when she’s not in the office.

Jennifer Prizeman-Utara

(Web Designer) After practicing law, Jen caught the coding bug and went back to school for her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. She’s now lucky enough to combine her loves for legal writing and technology by creating websites for attorneys. She has a soft spot for furry critters and buying way too many domain names. Originally from New Jersey, she currently lives in Virginia with her husband.
